A work in progress

Working toward increasing diverse representation in the yoga/anatomy world is not something we'll ever finish. Educating ourselves about social justice is an ongoing responsibility, a choice to show vulnerability as we grow. This ethical statement is written from the heart because that's where inclusivity starts.

As an educator, my mission is to foster an environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to learn. My commitment to ethical standards is reflected in my choices to promote diversity, inclusion, and equitable treatment for all. This statement outlines the core ethical principles of Spiral Syllabus/KKYTTS and how they guide the practices and interactions within our community.

1. Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Spiral Syllabus celebrates the rich tapestry of human experience with the belief that diversity strengthens our community. My CPD and yoga teacher training offering is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, physical abilities, or any other aspect of identity. I strive to create an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is encouraged to share their unique perspectives and take a keen interest when issues inevitably arise... as they will over the course of any learning journey.

I now speak for myself as a professional educator as well as our Directory of Spiral Syllabus Specialists and YTT graduates.

To ensure that our practices reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we continuously evaluate and update our curriculum and teaching methods. We incorporate a wide range of cultural and philosophical perspectives into our training, honouring the origins of yoga while adapting to the evolving needs of our global community.

 2. Equitable Treatment and Accessibility

Equitable treatment is fundamental to our approach. We are dedicated to providing accessible training that accommodates the diverse needs of our students. This includes offering various learning formats, such as in-person, virtual, and hybrid options, to ensure that our programs are reachable to individuals regardless of geographic location or physical limitations.

We actively seek to understand and address barriers that may hinder participation in our programs. Our commitment extends to offering financial support through scholarships and sliding-scale options to ensure that our training is accessible to individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We believe that financial constraints should not be a barrier to receiving high-quality yoga education. Contact us by email [email protected] to find out more about these options.

Accessibility is a crucial topic for yoga professionals and forms a major talking point in Karen’s training courses. Accessibility takes many forms, from keeping yoga courses and classes financially accessible to making the movement in those courses physically accessible to all who seek to benefit.

3. Adherence to Ethical Standards

Our school upholds the highest ethical standards in alignment with the current guidelines set forth by leading yoga organizations and professional bodies. We adhere to principles outlined by the Yoga Alliance and similar organizations, including:

Integrity

We conduct our training with honesty and transparency. Our instructors model ethical behavior and foster a safe space where students can ask questions and express concerns.

Respect

We honor the personal boundaries of all individuals and create an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and exploitation. Our teaching practices emphasize respect for oneself and others, promoting healthy, supportive interactions.

 Confidentiality

We maintain the confidentiality of all personal information shared by students, respecting their privacy and ensuring that any disclosures are handled with the utmost discretion.

 Competence

Our instructors are committed to ongoing professional development and adhere to best practices in yoga instruction. We ensure that our teaching methods are informed by up-to-date knowledge and are sensitive to the diverse needs of our students.

4. Community Engagement and Feedback

We recognize that ethical practice is an ongoing process that involves active engagement with our community. We encourage feedback from students, staff, and stakeholders to continually improve our practices and address any concerns that arise. Our goal is to foster a culture of openness and mutual respect, where ethical issues can be discussed and resolved collaboratively.

KKYTTS offers a scholarship programme supporting its D&I goals and seeks to promote representation of all backgrounds in its training courses. Please write to the school with any questions about getting involved or learning more about the scholarships and energy exchange programmes on offer.

As an educator, I am dedicated to promoting Spiral Syllabus and KKYTTS as a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual can thrive. Our ethical principles guide our actions and decisions, ensuring that our yoga teacher training is conducted with integrity, respect, and a commitment to equitable treatment. We are devoted to creating a positive and supportive space for learning and personal growth, embodying the true spirit of yoga in all that we do.
